HISTORY

“Years of almost non-stop conflict has left the eastern region of the Congo to suffer from financial and educational instability, leaving many residents in poverty and without access to education. Already aware of the conditions in this area, a group of young people driven by their love of humanity, paired with their desire to make the world a better place to live for all, came together in hopes of building a world in which everyone would have access to a proper education. As Nelson Mandela says, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education is the key to eliminating gender inequality, reducing poverty, creating a sustainable planet, preventing needless deaths and illness, and fostering peace. The group recognized that some of the challenges they faced were also occurring outside of their community, so they aimed to ensure that peace and justice were guaranteed not only for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but for the entire African community. The group’s energy goes toward building a borderless youth movement with the vision to make Africa a great place to live, not only for themselves and their community, but for the entire continent and the future generations to come.”

BIRTH OF VIJANA AFRICA

“Vijana Africa was born in response to the conflict that has been occuring in the DRC and in many other countries, but especially in response to a culture of silence that has been surrounding the many instances of defilement and violence. With the support of many throughout Africa, Vijana Africa was established as a youth organization that brings young people from all over the continent to provide them with the skills and knowledge they will need to emerge and develop as successful, confident, and self-reliant individuals who will work to promote peace, justice, and education.”

VIJANA AFRICA located in Eastern of Congo, legal registered in Democratic Republic of Congo, North Kivu Province, Goma city.
